New Ideas

I’m really wondering if I’m in the right career. Am I really supposed to be a programmer? Keeping up with my projects and responsibilities is almost more than I can handle. I’m stressed out and overwhelmed most of the time. And I really don’t think I’m all that good at programming.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not bad at it, but I’m not good at it either. I’m just average. And average isn’t good enough.
I enjoy programming, but I don’t enjoy it enough to do it for fun. And if I wouldn’t do it for fun, then maybe it isn’t something I should do for a career. Or even something I want to do for a career.
My problem is that I don’t know what I do want to do. I like computers and I get excited about the tech industry. So I think whatever I do should be connected to the computer industry. Especially since that is what I know about.
The computer industry is massive and covers a lot of aspects besides programming. So I should be able to find something I enjoy. I just need some ideas, and then I need to start working towards them.

There are even bloggers who - after a while - succed in living from their blogging.
Some do it as their main occupation.
And there are blogs with good hints for that… (e.g. doshdosh.com)

You’re too young to be having a mid-life crisis!
If you don’t enjoy programming (I’m talking coding, not the maintenance, documentation, office politics, etc. that make up most of a programmer’s day), then you probably should find a different tech specialty. Think about sys admin, or something. You seem to be a people person — the kind of guy who could tell users to make sure their computers are plugged in without insulting them.
Alternatively, think about some sort of product research. You seem to like the weird and new science and tech stuff out there.

@ Alexander - Not sure I could make enough money at something like blogging. No matter how much I may enjoy it.
@ Michael - Your right about the midlife crisis thing. I am way too young for that to be affecting me right now. I’m just overly depressed, stressed out, and overworked. Thanks for the ideas, I’ll definitely look into them.

What about some vacations, to relax, to think about many things, about your life, what you (really) want, what is (really) important for YOU?!
Probably (better: I suppose very much…) it’s not only the work….
To professionalize blogging, if you would want to do it at all(?), could even happen secondary to your normal work.
There are even other blogs with certain tipps for a better life.
In one of them I found a post about depression. The number of comments shows the interest of many people…. probably there is also something for you
